English II
Instructor: GUZMAN

"Students enrolled in English II continue to increase and refine their communication skills. High school students are expected to plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis. Students edit their papers for clarity, engaging language, and the correct use of the conventions and mechanics of written English and produce final, error-free drafts. In English II, students practice all forms of writing. An emphasis is placed on persuasive forms of writing such as logical arguments, expressions of opinion, and personal forms of writing. These personal forms of writing may include a response to literature, a reflective essay, or an autobiographical narrative.

English II students read extensively in multiple genres from world literature such as reading selected stories, dramas, novels, and poetry originally written in English or translated to English from oriental, classical Greek, European, African, South American, and North American cultures. Students learn literary forms and terms associated with selections being read. Students interpret the possible influences of the historical context on a literary work."

Blog
The intention of a blog is to continue exploring the ideas presented in our discussion topics in the classroom. All the blogs revolve around a theme that is being learned in class, and the significance it may have to our global learning. A universal topic that you and I can translate into our lives. One blog will be uploaded weekly and your response is expected weekly aswell. All comments must be posted by Sunday of that week for full credit. Best of luck

Film
An important reminder, films will not be shown in its entirety. Instead, the teacher and students will select some important scenes and utilize them as a supplemental to our reading. Films will always be connected to the readings thematically as requested by P.SJ.A.

Reading
I noticed that many of you were really interested in the reading we began in class this week. The book "Brownsville" is a collection of nine short stories that describe specific experiences  growing up in Brownsville, Texas. The author chooses to make the characters humble, which allows the reader to relate to them. Whether you realize it or not, South Texas has a unique culture that can really only be explained by experience. I am extremely happy to hear  positive comments from you in regards to the book. Keep up the good work.

Writing
